Cool Mist Humidifiers vs. Warm Mist Humidifiers
Whether you are going to buy a cool or warm mist humidifier depends on the type your physician has recommended to you and which of these two types helps you breathe easily.
Judging by my own experience, I’ve found out that the cool mist humidifier usually makes breathing easier when a person suffers from asthma or allergies. Also, if you find it hard to breathe in a sauna, a cool mist humidifier would be a better option. In contrast, it would be better to use warm mist humidifier, if a sauna makes it easier for you to breathe.
Warm Mist Humidifiers
Warm mist humidifiers function in a way that they, in fact, boil the water which turns into a distilled steam and is released into the room. In contrast to a vapor, this steam is like a spray of warm water and it is concentrated in the area nearest to the humidifier. This warm mist is making breathing easier in a cool room. Moreover, these units are usually used for steaming medications.
Compared to the cool mist humidifiers, they don’t make such a noise and they are sold in small transportable units. They should be cleaned regularly, because of the warm water which can lead to the growth of bacteria.
Cool Mist Humidifiers
Cool mist humidifiers are a little bit noisier, although a ’silent’ feature can be added to some models for operating in a bedroom. The water passes over a wick and the vapor is expelled which lowers down the temperature in the room and makes it easier to breathe. Cool mist humidifiers can appear in various sizes, from units that can be spread through the house’s heating system, floor console units, or room size models.
It is very necessary that all mist humidifiers are cleaned frequently as the prevention from bacteria, and some models have filters which have to be changed in order to maintain performance levels.
How Can I Tell If I Need One?
A mist humidifier will definitely do you good if you suffer from chapped lips, dry skin, sinus problems or a dry cough. Dryness in the house may also cause static electricity, and also wooden furniture and musical instruments to crack and ruin their finish.
How Do I Know How Much Humidity Is Right?
The level of humidity in your home is measured by a hygrometer. An optimal humidity level is between 35 and 45 percent. The required level of humidity for musical instruments is about 40 percent in order to decrease the risk of the finish to be cracked and ruined.
